This insect is widely distributed in Sub-saharan africa, particularly at higher elevations and dry deciduous forests.  In order to mimic and therefore hide among dead leaves, this mantis has deleloped the most amazing and weirdly shaped growths which append to its legs, head, thorax and abdomen.
