Malanistic Grey Squirrel.tif
In the NE states of American as well as Quebec and Ontario, the black, or melanistic, form of the Eastern Grey squirrel predominates. They are black due to the presence of a mutant gene. Black squirrels suposedly have 'advantages', over Grey individuals as they can hide in Virgin forests and retain warmth in winter.
